Sir,
Her Majesty's gracious approval of the designs of the Hong Kong silver dollar, transmitted herewith, was lately received through 7782/64, the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
The selection of designs for this coin has been an undertaking of some difficulty. An appearance of incongruity is given by the juxtaposition of the Chinese and English Characters in the double inscription, which it was desirable to avoid. Heraldic devices also appeared out of place in such a coin.
